The Bow Drill:
1. For this method, you need a spindle, socket, fireboard and a bow
2. The socket can be used to put pressure on the end of the spindle as you're rotating it with the bow (the socket can be a stone or a dry/hard piece of wood)
3. The bow should be made as long as your arm. Using a flexible piece of wood that has a slight curve, you can use anything to string up your bow. (shoelace, rope, rawhide, ect.)
4. Prepare a fireboard by cutting a V-shaped notch and create an indent adjacent to it
5. Under the notch, place the fire tinder
6. Catch the spindle in a loop of the bow string. Place one end of the spindle in the fireboard and place pressure in the other end with the socket
7. Using the bow, pull back and forth using a sawing motion
8. Keep sawing until you create an ember
9. Drop ember into the tinder nest and blow on it gently
